You can see the tracklisting for the new cd "Pasadena", it is as follows:
1. No One Needs To Know
2. Barriers
3. Eponine
4. Fight the Darkness
5. Heartache vs. Heartbreak
6. Incarnation Blumes
7. Lunchbreak (Cobras theme)
8. Motorology 3:29
9. I Wonder
10. Underneath My Tree
11. Straight Flush
We hear the songs Motorology (I think its this one, also its an instrumental of New Song 1 from reunion concert), Heartache vs. Heartbreak, Barriers, No One Needs to Know, and Eponine. This is what Ozma meant by hearing the new songs.
Discuss.
Motorology sounds very cool. Heartache has some great harmonies. Barriers is kind of cheesy and I don't think they should have re-recorded Eponine or No One Needs to Know. Given the sound of the new songs I would have much rather heard more new stuff.
Where's D Song and Kid Icarus?!?!!?!?!
d song = underneath my tree
kid icarus = abandoned for now
motorology = reunion show song
Thanks hipsun, you always come through for us.

:'(
perhaps they couldn't get a satisfactory recording going...
That stated, this video is awesome... I drive past that suicide bridge several times a month. The song with Star singing sounds great, as does that brief clip of barriers... The recycling of "No One Needs to Know" is a huge WTF. Eponine I can sort of understand, because it's been such a crowd pleaser. I just find it weird that with the amount of time that went into the record, and considering how Dan at least is a relatively prolific writer, they still felt the need to make so many dips into the back catalog!
Good times, nonetheless. Color me excited for the record... it's got a fresh sound to it.
So it seems I (and prob most, if not all of you) have heard demos/live versions/or bits of 9 of the 11 songs on this album already. I guess thats what hipsun meant by nothing we haven't heard already is even near ready to be released to us.
Basically. Re-recording No One Needs To Know kinda seems like it came out of nowhere. They seemed to be playing it only semi-often at shows. Maybe its just something they decided while in the studio.
Uptown, where are you now?
I don't like the two recycled songs... they should have only brought over Eponine onto this record.
Aside from that minor complaint, I really like the sound that I'm hearing from this record. It's grown up, but still has all the elements of Ozma that I hoped it would.
I've liked Heartache since it was on the Kate Moss Medley as an acoustic song. Great harmonies and great chords. I can't wait to hear what they've done with D Song though.
yeah, i think i completely agree with everything you have just said. i wish they would not have carried over those two songs, just because that means we only get 9 new ones. but i guess nine is better than none. and i also cannot wait for d-song.
I too am a bit disappointed with the two throwback songs. Eponine I can somewhat understand because it is awesome live. No One Needs to Know is a puzzler though. I listened to the original just now, and I suppose it could be done a bit differently.

Actually, that's probably Rachel Haden. We knew she was doing something on the album. Maybe that's it? Even back on STotB, I was confused why they got Rachel to do the album version of Wake Up when they could've used Star. Looks like they're doing it again, yes?
Whatever that is playing at the beginning is totally bitchin'.
I'm totally blanking on what kind of car that is.
definitely looks and sounds promising. although i hope there's more to motorology (sounds more like a cool instrumental). the chorus was pretty awesome from the reunion show boot.
as for eponine and no one needs to know... it'd be interesting to hear an updated version of those songs. i'm guessing no one needs to know wont have that "russian-cold fusion" vibe to it this time around.
if you look at the front cover it has a "flock of digital seagulls" that is someones headline on myspace, maybe it was the ozma one, i forget.
It was Ryen's and then Ozma's. I think it generally was used to name the Ryen/Kenn project that contained the songs "Ye Deserve To Know", "To The Leader of the Band", and "Beyond the Fire". I guess it is being carried over to the Pasadena theme.
the part of motorology in the video is a little programmed intro i made. right where it cuts out the full band comes in with lots of lyrics for the next 3.39. best song on the record in my opinion.
motorology sounds fucking superb.
can't wait to hear this.
i'm hoping i can order it from ozma as there is not a chance of a record store in ireland getting it in and i don't do digital downloads
hipsun = ezra buchla?

Hmm, i guess that would make sense. Seems like I remember reading a Dan comment about a song Star would be doing a lot of vocals on.
or something.
imo just the song titles themselves sound like this is going to be a completely different album then we were expecting.
hipsun, would you or one of the members of ozma mind telling us what some of the possible album titles were going to be?
I fucking love what we've heard of Motorology. Yes drum machines! Yes insane tones!
I am also puzzled about rerecording no-one needs to know, especially as a first track on album. Unless they've changed it a lot and made it awesome. But hopefully their re-recordings will seem justified to us once we hear them :D
EDIT: OH MY GOSH I ALMOST FORGOT NO KID ICARUS EQUALS SAD ME. i loved that song.
EDIT2: my guess is hipsun is not ezra.

EDIT4: No Into Light?

EDIT4: No Into Light?
My guess is, that's another changed title?
Also..what's wrong with No One Needs to Know? I love that song.
hipsun already addressed the changes and didnt mention into light. whats wrong with it is we have already heard it.
im surprised that they havent deleted the hipsun link, i did it one time and got in trouble.
never noticed there was no "into light"
such a pity as it was my favourite of the new stuff that i've heard.
Man.. When I saw them back in October I told Dan that I really like the new stuff, especially Kid Icarus.. And now it's gone.. What have I done??? :'(
Other than that small gripe, wow, I'm so excited!!
i think Star's voice is definitely apparent in heartache vs heartbreak.
rachel haden contributes too... you could hear her in the second line of the chorus "and my shiny armor's rusting now." especially in "rusting."
I'm so fuckin amazed at how good the drums sound.

Exactly.
Everything sounds sweet. I really like Barriers, too.
Yeah its reminiscent of those more synth-heavy aggressive Yes Dear tracks like "Ready To Go" or "Waking the Dead", but it still has the Ozma styling to it with the awesome guitars.
it is kind of odd that they put barriers on the album despite no one liking the demo, yet not putting into light even though it was pretty much liked by most of the fans.

This forum is a very small sampling of the demographic they're hoping to appeal to. And to be fair, a lot of the people who are posting in these threads are guaranteed sales anyway, so it really doesn't matter. I'm sure it was mostly a case of their personal opinions of the songs differing from those on the forum. Some of my favorite songs of all time are B-sides, so I don't think to question it.
Man, I've listened to this (and the Kate Moss Medley) many times now, and I'm dying to hear the full version of Heartache Vs. Heartbreak. Ahhhhhh!

Maybe Into Light's titled something else now? Just a thought.
What was the live song that leaked that had a line about "clocktowers"? did that make the final cut?
the fan preference of into light over barriers was nowhere near as unanimous as some boardies might suggest.
into light does not have a new title.
barriers has had a bit of a makeover, so don't be hating on it just yet. a new bridge, faster tempo, some new lyrics.
the clocktowers song is motorology.
God Damn heartache sounds so good. Did Rachel Haden harmonize on that? It sure sounds like her as the third voice in the vocal harmony.
i believe thats pat
Its funny, if you search "ozma pasadena" on google this is about the fourth thing that comes up:
http://www.vastrecords.com/ozma.html (http://www.vastrecords.com/ozma.html)
the first guitar (synth?) lick of "heartache" kind of sounds like the beginning of "Ice Cap Zone" from sonic 3.

wow, that's old.
Whoa. I can't believe No One Needs To Know has been redone... hope it turns out alright, since it's long been one of my very favourites. Eponine is a bit out of left-field, though - I mean, NONTK was on a slightly more obscure album, but re-doing a song from STOTB is a bit strange. Could come off, though.
Very excited about this now, though. Also very pleased that the stonkingly brilliant Straight Flush is the last track...
If they were to redo any song, my choice would be Los Angeles. Though, I understand why they wouldn't do that.
What song(s) do you guys think Matthew Caws will be on? My guess is Motorology 3:39.
Incarnation Blues or Lunchbreak, because those are the ones we haven't heard yet.
According to Ozma's MySpace blog, one of the songs included in the video is "Incarnation Blues." I assume that's the part in between "Motorology" and "Heartache." The Matthew Caws song can be heard in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IJZYheM8oE. It doesn't sound like any of the songs I know.
Ahh gotcha, I didn't see that before. I had assumed that Motorology and the segment I thought was Incarnation Blues, were both together Motorology.

Yes, I certainly agree. If you watch the video of him recording with Ozma, you can hear the same melody that's featured on "Motorology," except the tone is certainly different.
Yeah, I can clearly hear the part where Dan would start singing "I'm still dreaming of clock towers and..." in it.
yay! I hear some female vocals!
and the first song (Motorology?) sounds sooo nice.
we were talking to Jose in a chatroom last week about the new stuff and he was pretty cool but I have one thing to say to all you guys.
t h r e e stan3 (1:17:25 AM): ok. so. more questions. why "no one needs to know"
Ridelguy (1:18:00 AM): we made it ska
Ridelguy (1:18:04 AM): and it sounds a million times better

you realize that's not true, right?
Normally I wouldn't post something like this, but I feel the need so people don't think they've turned it into ska. This was from a few days ago while talking to Daniel.
Edit: Aaaand I've decided to remove it. I'm just not comfortable posting things like this without his permission. But those of you who saw it know, so, yeah, not ska from what it seems.
Ozma swears?! :o
Ozma swear all the time, especially at reunion shows.
no ska :( skaskaska
I didn't see whatever you posted, but I mean, it seems really obvious. Ozma isn't going to make a ska song. I assumed Stan knew this, but I was having my doubts.
what I can't have some fun with the newbies?
i saw it:
Dan says it's a little different but not a lot different, and that the keyboard/guitar solo sounds dope now.
SHOCKER!!!! PERSONAL INFO REVEALED!!
It wasn't anything big. I'm not saying it was. It wasn't revealing or anything. It was just.. It felt wrong posting something he said without permission. No big deal.

And Katherine too

And Katherine too
Well it all started with Acute, Addison, Mae Shi, and Piebald breaking up, then I am pretty sure Star and Kenn were indifferent about the new album, and have left (on good terms of course) to pursue an electronic/folk supergroup with the other members of Acute, Addison, Mae Shi, and Piebald under the name "Trailgate and the Even Newer Maximumer Donkey". Worse yet Star and Kenn took all the material from
Pasadena with them. So Dan, Ryen, and Jose during a crazy panic attack asked Pat and Katherine if they would come back for old times sake. Actually the guys asked Mary (Star's substitute from Warped Tour '02) before Katherine, but don't let Kat know that! Now I believe since Ozma can't release Pasadena, they are remastering
Ocho, which will be a split featuring a newly reformed Arlo and will consequently drop on May 14 on Vast Records, one day before Pasadena would of dropped. Apparently Matthew Caws is doing the final mix on
Ocho as we speak. There is rumor that there will be a hidden ninth bonus track 30 minutes after
Ocho is over, and the song is rumored to be a ska version of LA.
I could be wrong though.
