Harmonix, developers of the first two guitar hero games, Frequency, Amplitude, Karaoke Revolution, and the Rock Band series, recently announced a new branch of their online music store called Rock Band Network. If you're not too familiar with Harmonix, please watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFgEmu9ARVA for an idea of their respect for the music.

Basically, any band can take the master tracks to songs they own, chart the tracks to plastic drum, bass, guitar, and microphone, and then send off the charts to be released on the in-game store. Sub Pop (early Nirvanna, Postal Service, the Shins) has already promised to add as many tracks from their discography as possible, and multiple groups of semi-professional charters have already popped up to do free charting for bands who don't want to learn the ins and outs of proprietary HMX technology in exchange for a percentage of in-game earnings, with Rhythm Authors LLC being the most prominent and experienced so far.

Anyway, I have a number of non-musician friends who would love to pay for the right to scream the opening of Eponine or jam along with the great fretwork in In Search of 1988 and Last Dance.

EDIT: from looking around these forums, it's hard to tell how broken up Ozma is, but I know that no matter what they're up to, Rock and Roll part 3 was an excellent album, and any chance to get either Ozma songs or whatever these talented people are up to now into a music game with almost no work on the part of the artists seems like an opportunity worth looking into.

I've thought about this a couple times myself. I think the best song to rock out to on rock band (per album) would be:

Shooting Stars
Maybe In An Alternate Dimension (the guitar part before the first verse would be very hard)
Game Over
Motorology 3:39

I think what would make ozma hard to convert would be all of the keyboard lines, since rockband and guitar hero dont have keyboard, but im sure a lot of it can be translated to the guitar.

If it WERE possible to make any of the songs into a game song, then that would be so great. But I am happy enough having an entire game devoted to the Beatles so I wont complain about how a small band like Ozma whos music would be WAAAAY better on those games than I dunno REM or The New Pornographers

I sent Daniel an email last night and he said he was interested. It's going to be a while before the service is up and running, but I hope everyone is willing and ready to do it. We should all support them in this because I have been waiting since day one of Rock Band to play some Ozma songs.

who are you and how did you just so happen to join after this happened and have that close of a relationship with daniel?

Emailing him doesn't really seem that unreasonably close to warrant such a suspicious tone.

Haha, I don't know Daniel, I just looked to see if there was some way of contacting him online and I found his email. As for joining this forum so late, I don't really like participating in forums that much, but I wanted to give you guys the good news, so I joined. We need to keep this going though and try to get them all on board. I tried to get people interested in Ozma on the Rock Band forums before the Rock Band Network was announced, there's even a guy at Harmonix who loves Ozma, but it didn't seem like enough people were catching on. Hopefully this all works though and people will see, once the songs are in Rock Band, how enjoyable Ozma is to play.

Oh, and my name is Sean, I'm from San Dimas and hopefully this will convince you I'm not some kind of impostor here.

There aren't many bands out there that treat their fans like Ozma does.

So there's some new info on the Rock Band Network as well as the tools to create the songs for Rock Band. I sent this to Daniel so we'll see if they'd like to purchase these song creating tools and finally get some Ozma songs to play on fake plastic instruments.
